When my biracial Korean-German American son came home one day in Kindergarten, he told me he was "just white" because there were only two races in this country: White and Black. It was apparent that public education had enough capital to erase the identity of one little boy.

Luckily, being a former high school teacher and having a Doctorate in Education (Curriculum & Instruction), I understood how to navigate the public ed system and I took prompt action in advocating for Asian American (AA) inclusion in DEI trainings and heightening AA representation in education, understanding that AA inclusion is much more complex when you hit the secondary level and requires great care.

After running a statewide focus group where public educators were able to share their insights and struggles, it was obvious that teacher preparatory programs were not providing ample support in cultural competency, specifically around how to work with Asian American students.

To close this gap, I founded my business Asian American Inclusion and Representation in Education (AAIRE). Through my business, I developed this training course to address this need so that educators and districts as a whole can prepare themselves and better support our kids.
